Community Collaborations
GSCA is proud of our successful collaborations with community partners:
GSCA partnered with the Family Service Center of Galveston County to implement the Incredible Years program. The Incredible Years Program leverages a research-based curriculum with high effective sizes and positive-cost benefit impacts, trained facilitators to lead parents through guided skill practice over the course of 9-12 weeks.

During this time, parents learn practices to promote babies’ language development, reduce hostile attribution and harsh discipline by parents, prevent child behavior problems, and build foundational school readiness skills in babies.
Since its founding in September, 2013, the Diaper Bank has provided thousands of diapers and wipes to parents participating in Incredible Years classes, in partnership with Family Service Center of Galveston County and Galveston Sustainable Communities Alliance, and to families in crisis through St. Vincent’s House, Jesse Tree, and Galveston Urban Ministries.
GSCA’s study to identify gaps in early childhood education and care in Galveston provided data for a collaborative effort to craft a unique proposal for a public private partnership between local philanthropy and the Galveston Independent School District to establish a high quality, year-round early childhood education program. The Moody Early Childhood Learning Center opened in August 2016. Today it is the first Pre-K in-district charter school in the state of Texas.
GSCA led the development of the Galveston Career Connect (GCC) program to provide over 1300 students with integrated academic and career-focused learning, work-based activities, individualized care and academic counseling, connected internship opportunities, and industry recognized credentials in a high-growth job. We purposefully designed the GCC to be robust in both academics and career preparation.
GSCA was pleased to offer technical assistance to develop a long term recovery initiative supported by community partners.
Ready Rosie is an online video-based school readiness curriculum service that provides a daily two-minute video to assist parents, child care workers, preschool teachers, and caregivers in helping children become more equipped for kindergarten. GSCA provided financial support to offer this program for a year, giving parents, caregivers, and young children an informal, enjoyable learning opportunity. We hope to offer this again in the future.
